The Innocence Challenge — based in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld on the Benjamin N. Cardozo College of Legislation at Yeshiva College — works to free the harmless, stop wrongful convictions, and create truthful, compassionate, and equitable methods of justice for everybody. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism. Since our inception, the Innocence Challenge has used DNA and different scientific advances to free and exonerate greater than 230 individuals who collectively spent greater than 3,600 years wrongfully incarcerated. Our efforts have led to the passage of greater than 200 transformative state legal guidelines and federal reforms. Right now, the Innocence Challenge continues to struggle for freedom, drive systemic change, and advance the innocence motion.
