This report presents detailed statistical tables on mortality in state and federal prisons. It gives data on reason behind dying; decedent traits, comparable to age, gender, and race or ethnicity; and mortality charges of inmate populations, in comparison with the overall U.S. grownup inhabitants. The report is predicated on BJS’s annual Mortality in Correctional Establishments knowledge assortment, which obtains data on individuals who died whereas within the bodily custody of state departments of corrections.
